Gumboot Juba

Gumboot Juba, an iconic window installation by Harlem-based artist Dianne Smith, explored the cultural history of South African mine dancing and African-American traditions. Commissioned by the West Harlem Art Fund, it debuted during Armory Arts Week and was famously exhibited in the street-level windows of the historic Mink Building on Amsterdam Avenue.
